Endnote X7.5 for Office 2016 on Mac (beta)

Vậy là cuối cùng những người viết văn, viết reports, viết linh tinh bậy bạ... cũng đã có công cụ hỗ trợ trích dẫn tài liệu tham khảo ENDNOTE X 7.5 (beta) cho office (***) 2016 của mình trên Mac.

Nếu ai chưa biết thì nó cho phép mình sắp xếp tài liệu tham khảo rất khoa học (theo tên, năm....), làm thay đổi tư duy và cách nhớ về việc lưu trữ tài liệu theo cách cũ của mình (Hình 1)

Cho mình trích dẫn và nó sẽ tự sắp xếp danh mục tài liệu tham khảo theo vần abc không phải làm thủ công (ai đã từng làm luận văn tốt nghiệp hoặc làm deskreview trong một nhóm nhiều người sẽ thấy điều này kinh khủng mức nào).

Với cùng nguồn tài liệu tham khảo của mình, nó cho phép mình thay đổi từ hệ thống sắp xếp tài liệu tham khảo theo Harvard... hoặc theo cách của Việt Nam (theo bộ Giáo dục và đào tạo, tải tại đây: (Đăng nhập hoặc đăng ký để thấy link)

Lưu ý trước khi cài: Do phần mềm ở dạng beta nên các bạn cần:
Make backup copies of any files you use with the Beta! This includes the Word document you are using the Beta version of CWYW with as well as the EndNote library or libraries you are citing from.

(back up lại tất cả các file đã sử dụng với endnote beta; bao gồm word document mà đang sử dụng endnote beta này; tốt hơn hết là backup cả thư mục libraries bạn dùng để trích dẫn tài liệu nhé)

Mình đã test, và còn một số lỗi nhỏ như việc nó trích dẫn cả Abstract vào phần danh mục tài liệu tham khảo (cái này phải tự xóa bằng tay sau khi edit văn bản lần cuối).

Nhưng như vậy cũng đủ tốt rồi.

Đã có bản Update cho EndNote Beta 2 - Nhưng hiện nay trên diễn đàn của Endnote đang thấy có nhiều vấn đề với cái beta 2 này. Nên mình chưa muốn hướng dẫn để mọi người dùng. Mình vẫn đang sử dụng beta 1.

The following are some tips and suggestions to make sure the EndNote X7 Mac Beta works with your installation of Word 2016:

• Make sure Word 2016 is updated to the latest available version. On the date of this post (30 December), the latest version would be 15.17.1. You can check the version by going to the Word menu and selecting About Word. You can check for updates by going to the Help menu and selecting "Check for Updates."
• Make sure you have EndNote X7 Beta 2 installed. You can verify this by opening the beta, then clicking the EndNote menu and selecting About EndNote. This should read "EndNote X7.5p2 (Bld 10976)."
• Your library files should be saved to your local computer rather than any network drive or cloud storage location, like Dropbox.
• When you first start Word after installing Beta 2, it is normal for it to prompt you to Grant Access to the 'com.ThomsonResearchSoft.EndNote.plist' file. The file should already be selected in the correct location. Simply click Grant Access the first time and it should not prompt you again. This is due to Word being a "sandboxed application."

Missing Ribbon:

If you are not seeing the Ribbon in Word 2016, follow these steps:

• Make sure Word is updated to the latest version.
• Quit Word.
• Browse to this folder on your computer: “[Hard Drive Name]/Library/Application Support/Microsoft/ Office365/User Content/Startup/Word.” The folders name may vary depending on your system.
• Delete the “EndNote CWYW Word 2016.bundle” file.
• Hold down the "option" key on your keyboard and go to the "Go" Menu and choose "Library". Go to Users:[your login name with the house icon]:Library:Application Support:EndNote.
• Delete “EndNote Cwyw Commands.dotm” and “EndNote Online Cwyw Commands.dotm” if present.
• Start the EndNote X7 Mac Beta 2. Please verify this is beta 2 by going to the EndNote menu and selecting About EndNote. The version should read “EndNote X7.5p2 (Bld 10976).
• Go to the EndNote menu and select "Customizer."
• Check the box in front of the "Cite While You Write" option. Click next until the Customizer is finished.
• Open a library in the EndNote X7.5 Beta.
• Open Word 2016 and check the Ribbon for EndNote X7.

COM Exceptions:

If you receive a COM Exception, please follow these steps:

• Quit EndNote, Word and any Microsoft application.
• Find and drag the Nomal.dotm template to your desktop. This file should typically be in the following folder:
  Users:[YourUserName] : Library: Group Containers : UBF8T346G9.Office
  
  NOTE: Mac OS 10.7 "Lion" and later systems hide the Library folder. To access this folder, please click on the Go menu of your Finder and then press the "Option" key on your keyboard. Library should then appear as an option in the Go menu. Click this and proceed to Application Support: Microsoft: Office: User Templates to find the Normal.dotm file.
• Rename this file Abnormal.old
• Look for any pre-2016 Normal templates on your computer. Drag them to the desktop and rename. The location would depend on the version of Word:
  For Word 2008 and 2011: Users:[your login name with the house icon]:Library:Application Support :Microsoft: Office: User Templates
  For Word 2004 it is Users:[your login name with the house icon]: Documents: Microsoft User Data.
  For Word X it is Microsoft Office X:Templates.
• Remove or rename the following files/folders if they exist:
  
  Users:[your login name with the house icon]:Library: Containers: com.microsoft.Word
  Users:[your login name with the house icon]:Library: Preferences: Microsoft:Word Settings (10)
  Users:[your login name with the house icon]:Library: Preferences: Microsoft:Word Settings (11)
  Users:[your login name with the house icon]:Library: Preferences: com.Microsoft.Word.plist
  Users:[your login name with the house icon]:Library: Preferences:Microsoft: Office 2011 (The entire folder would need to be renamed or removed here)
  Users:[your login name with the house icon]:Library: Preferences: Microsoft: Office 2008 (The entire folder would need to be renamed or removed here)
• Relaunch EndNote and then Word.

Note: Before installing, make sure you have updated Word/Office 2016 to the latest version. You can check this by opening Word and clicking Help > Check for Updates.

TO INSTALL:

• Quit both EndNote X7 and all installed versions of Word.
• Run the Beta installer DMG file you received. By default, you will find the “EndNoteX75Installer_p2.dmg” file in your default “Downloads” folder. Note: Make sure this is the "p2" installer or you may need to use the signup page again. This should have automatically downloaded if you used the form here: (Đăng nhập hoặc đăng ký để thấy link)
  
• It will prompt you to copy the EndNote folder to the Applications folder. Instead, copy the EndNote X7 folder to the Desktop.
• Rename the folder on your Desktop to read “EndNote X7 Beta.”
• Move the Entire “EndNote X7 Beta” folder to Applications. If prompted, click Replace.
• Open the EndNote X7 Beta folder under Applications.
• Run the EndNote X7 application file to complete the installation and install the tools for Word 2016.
• There will be an option to “Select Installation Type.” The default of “I have a product key” with a key already entered. You just have to click “Next” here.

The EndNote X7 menu will appear as a tab of the Ribbon in Word. If you are still not seeing the EndNote tab in the Ribbon, please follow these steps:

• Quit Word 2016.
• Open EndNote X7 Beta.
• Go to the EndNote menu and select "Customizer."
• Check the box in front of the "Cite While You Write" option. Click next until the Customizer is finished.
• Open a library in the EndNote X7.5 Beta.
• Open Word 2016 and check the Ribbon for EndNote X7.

Vẫn còn bê-tha quá, chập chập và có lỗi (làm phải cài lại word 2016 luôn), không tự nhảy trở về word sau khi trích dẫn cho dù đã chọn trong Preferences, bạn nào đang viết cái gì quan trọng như luận văn hay nghiên cứu thì từ từ, đợi bản chính thức cho lành. Hãy cứ dùng tạm 7.4 với office 2011 trước đi.

Mình cũng ít khi trích dẫn trực tiếp tại Endnote. Mà thường quay lại word rồi nhấn insert selected... để insert vào chỗ mình muốn. Và đặt lệnh bằng phím tắt cho chức năng này trong Customize keyboard... luôn cho tiện (vì 2016 chưa cho add function lên thanh ribbon)
